Can writing be a career choice?
In the recent years, writing has boomed as an industry worldwide and the repercussions can clearly be seen in India as well. People who have the skills are trying their hands at writing and are getting good rewards for the same. Writing, of any kind, has become the backbone of any industry because people need to know and letting someone know something by reading is the best way to do it. And so, who will be the people who will generate content?
Friends, writing has started a revolution, a content revolution in India. More and more people are joining the field; even the ones who are engineers and other vocational courses graduates are also joining the stream of writing because they know the future of this industry is rather secure and profiting than any other career choice right now. That’s why we are seeing a boom in the field of journalism as well – and I must say, this is the result of the technological revolution – internet, digital media, social websites and so on.
And for writing, what can you do? How can you start writing? What will you write? Do you really know how to write? There are many questions that one needs to answer before actually taking up the job of writing and hoping for monetary profit from it. And to recognise whether you have writing potential or not, you should start by writing small pieces in your favourite genre and throwing it towards the readers for their comments and feedback. If you get a favoured response, you should understand that you are all set to move ahead in the field.
Choosing your genre is a crucial and the most important part of this industry. Writing is a huge space and millions of people are writing about millions of things on the internet. What will you write? Do you have that flair about the thing you choose to write about? You can write about cars; you can write about fashion; you can write about photography; you can write about education; you can write about career; you can write about books and become a book blogger; you can write about anything you think you can but you need to be sure that you can do what you want to do!
If you want to write for a newspaper or a news website, you can surely take the course in journalism and start your career rather safely without a risk. And as I have already mentioned in my previous post, IIJNM is a very appropriate Institute for your course in journalism!
