IIJNM Bangalore – the destination for journalism students!

January 20, 2018 — by Amit Mishra

Are you looking for a good journalism college where you could pursue your course and expect a better grooming of yourself as a future-oriented journalist? I have been searching the same and had several options. The institution where you should be staying for your course must have the following up to the mark:

  • Updated curriculum
  • Capable and experienced faculty bench
  • Modern and tactical approach to the course
  • In-office training environment
  • Lectures and discourse by the mavens in the industry
  • Job-like experience during your projects and assignments
  • Security of a job
  • Good lodging and meals if you are staying in the hostel

So, with these facilities, I was looking for an institution and I ran scans in both the sectors – privately held ones as well as government funded ones. While people have the general tendency to get enrolled in the government colleges and institutions without even checking the facts – just because of low fees most of the times – they must explore other options as well. Today, I will be telling about an institution where I have been personally for the observation and that’s IIJNM in Bangalore. Let’s take a look at what I found.

IIJNM was founded in 2001 and is privately held. With the passing years, it has constantly been upgrading its courses as well as curriculum. To handle the complex nature of journalism study, there are faculties as experienced as the ones who have been in the field for more than three decades and it adds a bonus to the offerings for the students. Now, as 17 years have passed and the institute is open for registrations once again, you should know some of the facts about it.

Job-Ready: In the recent years, IIJNM has been the hub of job opportunities in the field of journalism. Freshers who are out of the institution, instantly make their holds stronger in their career with perfect opportunities in the media houses in various roles according to their choice of course. In the frequent scenario, the salary offered is something about 25-30ks for a month which can depend upon your personal presentation during the interview and might increase as well. Chances of progress are always there – with your pocket and with your positions as well. So, IIJNM will ensure that you get the things you want with your career but you also have to be ardent about your studies and your ambition.

Way Ahead of The Competitors: IIJNM (the campus in Bangalore) has developed a style of its own and you will hear it from the students who have been there that the faculties will not leave any stones unturned to groom you into a someone who can handle the job as well as mock-jobs very well. You will have a lot of opportunities during the studies at IIJNM – doing stories for local and national newspapers; doing projects by visiting the nearby areas; doing complex tasks assigned to you by the faculties; and all these go on to shape you into a rigorously trained person who is ready for the challenges to come your way. Yes, you have to be tough if you are at IIJNM!

The Bring-ins: Being a student at IIJNM, you will be experiencing something which no other institutions for journalism can offer you in India. They have well-knit ties with some of the renowned and respected institutions of journalism abroad and most often, you will see lecturers walking down to IIJNM for guest lectures and frequently through the digital classroom experience, you will see them teaching you the nuance and the depth of the field. Other than that, you will also see the big names in Indian media coming in-house for the insights and advice. This becomes very useful for the students because they have a golden opportunity to learn from the bests in the field of journalism – be it print, broadcast or the digital (electronic).

So, these are the distinct qualities which make IIJNM stand out when it comes to the selection of institutes for journalism by Indian students. Yes, the fee is a little higher compared to most of the government institutions but if you want to be on the hit-list of the hunters for freshers, you can afford that price for a job-ready course which will yield you the ROI in a very short period of time.

The registrations for the different courses in journalism is going on at IIJNM and you can also register yourself for the admission test on their website. For more details, You can visit http://iijnm.org

As you must know, just being from a government institution does not make you a person eligible for a job. This is about your presentation and your skills which, I am sure, IIJNM will do the best to develop in you!

Harinee, you can actually visit both the campuses and get a feel. Both as equally good as private institutions.
